Residents of Matero, alongside DAPP Zambia and local leadership, came together Wednesday 22nd April,2026 to celebrate Earth Day 2026 through meaningful action—cleaning their surroundings and planting trees in Muchinga Ward 28 and at Matero Clinic.
This year’s theme, “Our Planet, Our Power,” came to life as the community demonstrated that real change starts with simple, practical steps.
DAPP Zambia Managing Director, Elise Soerensen, reminded everyone that Earth Day must go beyond symbolism:
"Our power is practical, visible, and rooted in community action—just like what we are doing here today."
And Muchinga Ward 28 Councilor, Lee Mukupa—who was represented by Ward Development Committee Chairperson, Kenneth Fulawa, also called on residents to take responsibility through everyday habits—keeping surroundings clean, using proper waste systems and supporting recycling efforts.
The event further highlighted the Urban Gardening Project, empowering households to grow food, improve nutrition, and contribute to a greener Lusaka.
Tree planting at Matero Clinic symbolized a shared commitment to a cleaner, healthier future.
DAPP also shared trees with community members to plant in their households as part of efforts to green the city.
