Disability Photo ProjectThe United for African Disability Protocol program enhances the well-being, education, and health of children living with disabilities by strengthening family care, reducing stigma, and increasing access to essential services. The Program helps children and youth with disabilities live safely, attend school, and actively participate in their communities.

Individual Case Management:
The Program employs a family-centred case management approach, tailoring its response to the specific needs of each child and caregiver through individualized case plans. Each family is assigned a Case Worker who conducts monthly home visits to provide psychosocial support, guidance, and practical assistance.

Support includes enrolling children in school, linking families to health and rehabilitation services, supporting adherence to medical advice, improving household WASH, and strengthening livelihoods through backyard gardening, savings groups, and income-generating activities for adolescents and youth with disabilities. Families are also screened for all forms of child abuse, including Gender-Based Violence, with referrals made to specialised services where required.

The Program strengthens community and institutional support systems by working closely with Organizations of Persons with Disabilities (OPDs) and Community-Based Organizations (CBOs). These organisations are capacitated to sensitise their members, support families, and advocate for inclusive education, health services, and child protection.

To address stigma and discrimination, the Program is conducting community dialogue meetings, district stakeholder engagements, and community radio programmes, promoting positive attitudes and inclusive practices toward children and youth with disabilities.

The Program is implemented in Ndola and Kitwe, reaching 100 families and 40 Organizations of Persons with Disabilities already engaged under DAPP Zambia. The EU-funded Africa Disability Protocol programme ensures alignment and sustainability of interventions.
