Meanwhile, the Lusaka Mayor urged citizens to take a leading role in keeping the city clean, emphasizing the importance of individual responsibility in waste management efforts.
At Development Aid from People to People (DAPP) Zambia, recycling is at the heart of our work and a key driver of sustainability. Through our nationwide Second-Hand Clothes and Shoes programme, we actively promote recycling by extending the life of garments and reducing waste. Items that are not sold are repurposed into useful products such as doormats, bedcovers, and ribbons, demonstrating practical circular economy solutions.
The Global Recycling Day commemoration reinforced the importance of collective action in protecting the environment. It highlighted that when waste is viewed as a resource, it can create opportunities for economic growth, generate jobs, and contribute to healthier communities.
