On Friday the 20th of February, 2026, the Ministry of Community Development and Social Services concluded a three-day training workshop for DAPP Zambia Project Leaders on the implementation of the diversion processes as a service provider under National Diversion Framework.
DAPP Zambia will be implementing diversion activities under the Child Justice Project, and the training equipped Project Leaders with the knowledge, tools and practical skills required to effectively facilitate diversion processes in line with national child justice guidelines.
Sessions focused on restorative justice principles, case management, mediation techniques, child safeguarding and multi-sectoral coordination to ensure that children in conflict with the law are supported appropriately.
Diversion is already being implemented countrywide as a government policy framework aimed at protecting children who committed minor offences from the negative effects of formal court proceedings and detention. It is a child-centred approach that channels children away from the formal justice system and instead focuses on accountability, rehabilitation and reintegration.
DAPP supports government’s diversion efforts in eight districts: Ndola, Kitwe, Chipata, Katete, Mongu, Mansa, Chinsali and Kapiri. The initiative strengthens restorative and rehabilitative systems for children, reinforcing Zambia’s commitment to child protection and justice reform.
Through structured mediation with victims, counselling of the child, family support and community engagement, DAPP Zambia will be contributing community-centred justice systems that protects children’s dignity and promotes long-term positive change.
