Yesterday 23rd July 2026, Members of DAPP Zambia Youth in Action Project joined the Ndola Municipal Council, the Ndola District Public Health Office, the Zambia Correctional Service, NIPA students, community members, and other stakeholders in a community clean-up exercise at the Mapalo A and B Market (Old and New Market) in Chipulukusu, Ndola District.

Held under the theme “Keeping Our Market Clean for a Healthy Community,” the activity focused on improving sanitation and creating a healthier trading environment. Participants cleared the market, cleared drainages, collected garbage, and slashed overgrown grass around the market. The clean-up was organized to improve sanitation, to prevent blocked drainage systems, reduce the risk of disease outbreaks, and encourage shared responsibility for keeping public spaces clean.

Speaking during the event, Ndola District Commissioner Ms. Precious Njekwa thanked all the organizations and community members who participated in the exercise.

“I would like to thank all the stakeholders, organizations, and community members who have taken part in today's clean-up exercise. Your participation shows that keeping our markets clean is everyone's responsibility. A clean market provides a safer and healthier environment for traders and customers. I encourage all of us to continue working together to maintain cleanliness in our communities, not only during organized activities but every day.”

The DAPP Zambia Youth in Action Project works with young people to build practical skills, promote healthy lifestyles, and encourage active participation in community development. Through activities such as community clean-ups, recycling, tree planting, entrepreneurship, and life skills training, the project supports young people to improve their livelihoods while contributing to cleaner and healthier communities.
